Quentin Halys served 17 aces past Alexander Bublik in the Kitzbuhel final on 25 July 2026 and won 6-4, 7-6(6). Bublik was the top seed and the defending champion. Halys did not face a break point, according to Tennis Now, which had him winning 33 of 38 first-serve points. When it was over, Bublik poured champagne over his head.
It was his first ATP Tour title. He had earned his first ranking point in 2012, at 15. He did not drop a set all week, beat two top-20 players in Valentin Vacherot and Bublik, and became the first Frenchman to win Kitzbuhel in the Open Era, according to the ATP Tour. The goal “since I was a kid,” he said on court, “was to win an ATP title and today the dream came true.”
He told ATPTour.com afterwards that he had been trying to win a title “even at Challenger level”, that it had been three years since his last one, and that he had lost finals in between.
A top junior, and a long wait
Halys was the world No. 3 junior. In 2014 he won the Roland Garros boys’ doubles with Benjamin Bonzi and reached the US Open boys’ singles final, according to his ATP profile. The professional climb was slow. He entered the top 200 in 2015 and did not reach the top 100 until 2022, the year he went 43-10 on the Challenger tour and won titles at Pau, Lille and Ismaning.
Asked about that gap in his ATP biography, he said: “One of the biggest challenges was staying patient and believing in yourself, after being a top junior and then losing a lot of tough matches as a professional.”
Wimbledon, then Gstaad, in 2024
In July 2024, ranked 220th, he came through qualifying at Wimbledon and reached the third round. The next week, ranked 192nd, he qualified again in Gstaad and went all the way to his first tour-level final. Matteo Berrettini beat him 6-3, 6-1 in 59 minutes.
The final turned early. At 2-3 in the first set Halys had Berrettini at 0-40 and did not take any of the three break points, according to the ATP Tour. Berrettini broke in the next game, and rain stopped play for half an hour at 5-3. When they came back Berrettini won seven of the last eight games. “It was his first final, so for sure a lot of thoughts you might think in those moments, especially when you stop and you just got broken,” Berrettini said.
The big wins
His first win over a top-20 player came at the 2023 Miami Open, where he saved three match points against Alex de Minaur on his way to the fourth round, still his best Masters 1000 result. His first top-10 win came at the eleventh attempt, over Andrey Rublev, then No. 9, in Dubai in 2025. That June he reached the third round at Roland Garros and a career-high ranking of No. 46, according to the ATP Tour.
Earlier, at a Challenger in Quimper in 2018, he beat a young Stefanos Tsitsipas on his way to the second of his seven Challenger titles.
Playing style
Halys is a big-serving right-hander. He lists the forehand as his favourite shot and hard courts as his favourite surface, though his only tour title came on clay. Opponents talk about the serve first, and about indoor courts. “I know Quentin’s qualities for a long time, especially in these conditions where his service game becomes an even bigger weapon for him,” Felix Auger-Aliassime said after beating him in Quebec City this week. When he named his Davis Cup team, French captain Paul-Henri Mathieu said Halys “plays very well indoors”, according to comments the French federation published.

Ranked 49th, three places short of his career high. Kitzbuhel lifted him 32 places, from outside the top 80 to 51st, according to the ATP Tour. This weekend he is playing Davis Cup for France in Quebec City, in a team without Arthur Fils, who withdrew. On Friday Auger-Aliassime beat him 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-3. Halys broke early in the second set to level the match. In the third he double-faulted three times in a row in the fourth game, and that one break decided it.
