Ashlyn Krueger Profile — An Osaka Title Without Dropping a Set, and a Wimbledon Run From Qualifying

Ashlyn Krueger is a 6-foot-1 American right-hander who won her first WTA title in Osaka in 2023 without dropping a set, reached a career-high No. 29 in 2025 and, after falling outside the Top 100, came back through Wimbledon qualifying in 2026 to reach the fourth round. She is in action this week at the Wuhan Open as a lucky loser.

Born May 7, 2004, in Springfield, Missouri, she lives in Dallas, Texas, and is coached by Beau Treyz, according to her WTA biography. Her favourite players growing up were Kim Clijsters and Maria Sharapova.

Juniors and the first wild cards

Krueger won the 2020 Orange Bowl as a wild card. In 2021 she swept the USTA 18s National Championships, which earned her wild cards into the singles and doubles draws at the US Open, and she won the junior doubles title there with Robin Montgomery, according to the WTA.

Her tour-level debut came in that 2021 US Open singles draw, a three-set first-round loss to Anna Karolina Schmiedlova. She and Montgomery reached the second round of the women’s doubles as wild cards. She had made her professional debut in 2019, coming through qualifying to reach the semi-finals of an ITF W15 event in Carson, California.

In 2022 she played the main draws at Indian Wells, Miami, San Jose and the US Open, and on the ITF circuit won a W60 title in Evansville, Indiana, and reached the final of a W25 in Sarasota, Florida.

Osaka 2023

Krueger’s first WTA title came at the Japan Women’s Open in Osaka in September 2023. She did not drop a set all week and beat top seed Zhu Lin, then ranked No. 35, in the final, according to the WTA. The title took her into the Top 100 for the first time on September 18, 2023. Earlier that season she had won a WTA 125 title in Gaiba.

2024 and 2025: every major, then No. 29

In 2024 she made the main draw at all four majors for the first time. Her best Grand Slam result to that point came at the US Open, where she reached the third round before losing to Liudmila Samsonova. She also won her first tour doubles title that year, at the WTA 500 in Charleston with Sloane Stephens.

Her best result of 2025 was the final of the WTA 500 in Abu Dhabi, where she lost to Belinda Bencic. She also reached quarter-finals at Brisbane and Adelaide in the Australian swing, and on July 14, 2025, she reached her career-high ranking of No. 29, according to the WTA.

The 2026 grass run

By the summer of 2026 Krueger was outside the Top 100 and building back through the WTA 125 level. She reached the semi-finals in Birmingham as a qualifier and then won the WTA 125 title in Ilkley in June. From there she went through three rounds of Wimbledon qualifying at Roehampton and into the main draw, according to the WTA.

She beat qualifier Mariam Bolkvadze 6-1, 6-0 in 54 minutes to reach the third round at the All England Club for the first time, then beat Daria Snigur to reach the fourth round, her best result at any major. The WTA had her 16-1 on grass for the year after the Snigur win. Krueger explained the surface simply. “You serve big, you have a big game, you’re going to do well,” she said. On the year before, she said: “There were a lot of things last year that were out of my control, that affected my game and my performance.”

The hard-court summer was harder. She retired with a right ankle injury against Naomi Osaka in Washington, lost to Lois Boisson in Cincinnati and lost to Amanda Anisimova 6-1, 6-3 in the first round of the US Open, according to the WTA.

Doubles with Montgomery

The partnership that won the 2021 junior US Open doubles came back in 2026. Krueger and Robin Montgomery reached the final of the US Open women’s doubles, according to her WTA biography. It is her only Grand Slam final at senior level.
