Andreeva Reaches Stuttgart Semifinals With Win Over Swiatek

Teenager produced one of the standout results of the early clay season on Friday, rallying from a set down to beat Iga Swiatek 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 and book her place in the Stuttgart semi-finals.

The official WTA scoreboard listed the quarter-final as a 2-hour, 36-minute battle, with the 18-year-old overturning an early deficit against the two-time Stuttgart champion.

Swiatek, so often dominant on clay and a four-time French Open champion, appeared in control after taking the opening set. But Andreeva stayed aggressive, found a crucial break in the second, and then recovered after Swiatek moved ahead early in the decider.

The Russian’s composure under pressure was striking, especially against an opponent who remains one of the leading favorites for Roland Garros whenever the tour shifts onto clay.

The win adds another major result to Andreeva’s fast-growing résumé. She had already knocked out defending champion Jelena Ostapenko earlier in the week, and now leaves Stuttgart with another statement victory over one of the tour’s biggest names.

Before Friday’s upset, Andreeva had also extended her strong start to the clay swing by beating Alycia Parks to set up the meeting with Swiatek.

Andreeva’s semi-final opponent had not yet been settled at the latest official update, with top seed Elena Rybakina and Leylah Fernandez still playing in the remaining quarter-final.

Earlier Friday, Karolina Muchova also made a notable breakthrough, defeating Coco Gauff 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 for her first win in seven career meetings with the American. Muchova had previously lost to Gauff at this year’s Australian Open, but this time she handled the longer rallies well on clay and closed out a result that sends her into the Stuttgart semi-finals for the first time.

Muchova will face Elina Svitolina, who continued her strong run by beating Linda Noskova 7-6(2), 7-5. The victory pushed Svitolina into her fifth semi-final of the 2026 season, underlining the consistency she has rediscovered after a difficult 2025.

With Andreeva surging, Muchova finally solving Gauff, and Svitolina carrying steady form into the weekend, Stuttgart has quickly turned into one of the most intriguing stops of the early clay-court calendar.
