Sinner Confirms Monte Carlo Entry After Completing Sunshine Double

Jannik Sinner left Miami on Monday carrying two trophies and an open question about his immediate schedule, though his team has since answered it: the world No. 2 will play the Monte Carlo Masters beginning April 6.

Sinner completed the Sunshine Double on Sunday with a straight-sets victory over Jiri Lehecka in the Miami Open final, extending his Masters 1000 unbeaten run to 34 consecutive sets. The turnaround to Monte Carlo is less than a week.

In his post-match interview, Sinner used qualified language when asked about the clay swing opener, referring to “if I want to play Monaco” and emphasising his preference to focus only on what he can control. His team subsequently confirmed his participation.

He has been entered in both singles and doubles at Monte Carlo, partnering Belgian Zizou Bergs in the doubles draw. The pairing gained direct entry based on their respective rankings, a contrast to the wildcard Sinner needed to compete in doubles at Indian Wells earlier this season.

His staff have also confirmed he will play the full clay triptych of Monte Carlo, Madrid and Rome ahead of Roland Garros. The doubles entry in Monaco is understood to be a deliberate acclimatisation strategy, giving Sinner additional match time on the surface before the singles draw demands his full attention.

Last year Sinner missed Monte Carlo entirely due to his suspension following a positive doping test. He arrives in the Principality with no ranking points to defend and the opportunity to bank significant new ones.

The ranking context sharpens the stakes. Carlos Alcaraz, the defending Monte Carlo champion, will shed 1,000 points the moment the tournament begins, narrowing the gap to Sinner before either man has struck a ball in Europe.

Sinner has said his return to number one will come on his own terms and timeline. The next ten days in Monaco will offer the first indication of whether the form he built on the Florida hard courts can translate to the red clay of Europe.
