Aryna Sabalenka passes Chris Evert on all-time WTA No. 1 streak list

Aryna Sabalenka added another milestone to her run at the top of women’s tennis this week, moving past Chris Evert on the all-time list for consecutive weeks at No. 1 in the WTA rankings. The WTA said Sabalenka has now climbed to No. 11 on that list, edging beyond Evert’s streak from 1980 to 1982.

The achievement is another sign of how steady Sabalenka’s hold on the top ranking has become. She remains No. 1 in the latest WTA singles rankings with 11,025 points, and the timing of the milestone comes just after a dominant stretch in the United States that further strengthened her position.

Sabalenka’s recent form has made the ranking story feel less like a statistical footnote and more like the latest chapter in a period of real control on tour. At the end of March, she beat Coco Gauff in the Miami Open final to complete the Sunshine Double after also winning Indian Wells, becoming the fifth woman to sweep those two marquee events in the same season.

That stretch has helped turn a strong No. 1 ranking into a historically significant one. According to the WTA, Sabalenka is now only three weeks away from tying Martina Hingis for 10th place on the all-time list for consecutive weeks at No. 1.

For Sabalenka, the larger story is not just how long she has been at the top, but how complete her game has looked while staying there. Her power has long been feared, but the recent results suggest a player who is managing big moments more cleanly and handling the weight of expectation better than ever.

The ranking streak is one result of that. The trophies are another. That last sentence is an inference based on her recent results and ranking position.

Evert’s name carries obvious weight in the history of the sport, so passing her on any all-time ranking list matters. For Sabalenka, doing it during an active title run gives the moment added force.

She is no longer simply chasing the standard set by past champions. She is starting to place herself among them. That final point is an inference from the WTA’s all-time ranking context and Sabalenka’s current streak
