The 2026 Berlin Open will crown its champion on Sunday after a rain-interrupted semifinal Saturday delivered a stunning collapse from the world No. 1 and the end of the tournament’s most romantic story.
The final is set: third seed Jessica Pegula will face Czech Linda Noskova for the WTA 500 grass title.
Pegula’s bagel finish. Pegula needed three sets and a long weather break to subdue Aryna Sabalenka, winning 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-0 to reach her second Berlin final after lifting the trophy here in 2024. The American had control of the opener and led 3-1 in the second-set tie-break when more than two hours of rain washed away her momentum.
Sabalenka edged the breaker on the resumption to force a decider — and then promptly fell apart, conceding the final set without winning a game as Pegula reeled off the last six games of the match. The win snapped a five-match losing run against Sabalenka and trimmed the head-to-head to 9-4 in the Belarusian’s favor; it was Pegula’s 23rd career singles final.
For Sabalenka, it is another Berlin semifinal exit and a patchy tune-up with Wimbledon points to defend at the All England Club and she will arrive in London having again been denied on grass at the last-four stage.
Eala’s fairytale ends. The second semifinal closed the book on Alexandra Eala’s breakout week. The 20-year-old Filipina wildcard, who had stunned Elena Rybakina and Elina Svitolina to reach her first WTA 500 semifinal, ran into a serving masterclass from Noskova and fell 6-2, 6-4 in 69 minutes.
Noskova struck 33 winners and nine aces, racing through the opener before holding off a brief Eala surge from 3-4 down in the second. Eala did claw back to 4-3 before Noskova reeled off the last three games. The defeat dropped Eala to a lopsided career record against Czech opponents, a stat she will hope to shed once the grass swing matures.
Forward look. Noskova, the 2024 Monterrey champion, chases a second tour title against a Berlin specialist; Pegula chases a 12th. Both leave Germany with grass-court confidence and a Wimbledon draw days away.
